I’ve been using Substack a lot lately. Don’t fucking asking why. I am a writer… wanna get PAID. But after this… Today we will be dissecting how violently the manosphere hijacked The Matrix
Today on Substack, Andrew Tate is the No. 1 bestseller. Andrew Fucking Tate. After having just finished a three part essay on how Substack monetises the manosphere, I was actually looking forward to sitting down and writing a defence of why I am still on this rancid platform. Spoiler: it’s a sickening discussion of all the great people I found on here and the nice little community I have built up. Disgusting. However, I have decided to alter my scheduled post to insert this one (which I was already working on as my kid asked to watch The Matrix last week and it reminded me of all this stuff).

As a linguist, I spend my life dissecting how language constructs reality, but the semantic gymnastics required to dodge this much prison time is staggering even to me.
The sheer volume of what this man is accused of is horrifying. As of right now, Tate is facing six distinct legal investigations—four criminal and two civil—spread across Romania, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
- The First Romanian Case: In December 2022, Tate and his brother Tristan were arrested in Romania and subsequently indicted in June 2023. The charges are: rape, human trafficking, and forming an organised crime group specifically designed to sexually exploit women.
- The Second Romanian Case: As if that wasn’t enough, Romania’s anti-organised crime agency (DIICOT) launched a second investigation in August 2024. This one expands the horror show to include trafficking minors, sex with a minor, money laundering, and attempting to influence witnesses.
- The UK Charges: Across the channel, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) eventually woke up and authorised 21 charges against the brothers, including rape, actual bodily harm, human trafficking, and controlling prostitution for gain. British police issued an arrest warrant, and the Romanian courts agreed to extradite the Tates to the UK—but only after the Romanian legal proceedings have entirely concluded.
- The Civil Lawsuits: He’s also facing civil lawsuits in the UK from four British women alleging sexual violence and physical abuse, after the CPS initially fumbled the bag and decided not to prosecute him back in 2019.
So, Why Is He Not Behind Bars? This is where the algorithmic grift meets procedural fuckery.
He was in a cell, initially. Following their arrests, the brothers were held in police custody for the maximum allowable pre-trial detention period under Romanian law, which is a stretch of about three months (from December 2022 to March 2023). You can’t just hold someone indefinitely without a trial, even a colossal bellend like Tate.
Since maxing out that pre-trial lockup, the Tates have been caught in a relentless ping-pong game of house arrest and judicial control restrictions, dictating where they can travel and who they can speak to.
The main reason he hasn’t faced the music yet is that he is weaponising the glacial pace of the justice system. His high-priced legal team is engaging in a deliberate strategy of delaying and drawing out the case. They struck gold late last year when a Romanian court ruled that the primary case couldn’t proceed to trial yet due to “multiple legal and procedural irregularities” on the part of the prosecutors.
The case isn’t closed, and he hasn’t been acquitted, but it was a massive procedural setback for the prosecution. So, he exploits the legal loopholes, appeals every single travel restriction, and throws money at the walls while he sits comfortably on his ill-gotten wealth, spewing toxic bile onto X (aka the Pornhub of bullshit) and raking in cash on Substack from boys who don’t know any better.
AND SUBSTACK IS PAYING FOR THIS. SUBSTACK IS EARNING MONEY FROM A GANGSTER PIMP DELAYING HIS OWN JUSTICE WITH EXPENSIVE LAWYERS.
And what is Tate’s apparently massively important bestselling take on the world? It’s basically the story of The Matrix—but this guy has turned one of the most beautiful trans allegories about authenticity ever to have made it into the mainstream, and turned it into a devilled egg full of disgusting manosphere protein. It is semiotic hijacking in its purest, most parasitic form. It is the ultimate act of ripping a symbol out of its original context, aggressively dumping out the creative meaning, and stuffing it full of an adversarial agenda.
In the ultimate, nauseating act of cultural vandalism, two visionary trans sisters poured their lived dysphoria into a cinematic masterpiece designed to liberate us from oppressive binary cages, only for their art to be parasitically hollowed out by two alleged rapist brothers who are weaponising those exact same metaphors to herd vulnerable boys right back into a hyper-capitalist, patriarchal meat-grinder.
I’ve talked before about how the Manosphere operates as a grotesque pantomime of the impossible, untouchable lives of the billionaire Epstein class, packaging it up and selling it to lonely young men and 40-year-old virgins. They have completely weaponised the concept of the “Alpha”—which, by the way, any actual scientist will tell you is total bollocks.
The “Alpha Wolf” Myth was Debunked by its Own Creator, Dr. L. David Mech.
He formally retracted the alpha concept in an article in 1999 and has spent the last 25 years trying to get the public and publishers to stop using the term. In the real natural world, an alpha is usually the animal maintaining social equilibrium within the pack, and it’s frequently female. But these grifters have twisted this fake biology into a business model, a never-ending funnel of podcast subscriptions, supplements, and merch.
They are trying to commodify the sociopathic, god-level arrogance of the ultra-rich. It’s about adopting that sneering disdain for anyone with less capital, driven by this weird, pharaoh-like logic that extreme wealth is bestowed by divine biological right. The manosphere evaluates absolutely every human relationship as a transactional exchange of capital within a deregulated sexual marketplace, which is a deeply neoliberal framework.
They think that they can create a slice of that rich arsehole lifestyle by simply mistreating women. So they pay a bloke to tell them how to smash themselves in the face with a hammer. I wish this was a joke. I wish this were mere hyperbole. It’s not.
Look at Tate’s pitch. He spins this conspiracy about an invisible power elite keeping the masses as slaves, but here’s the sick, paradoxical joke: he never actually criticises the problematic concentration of power. He just wants a seat at their table. For these people, belonging to that untouchable elite is the ultimate, desirable goal.
The whole movement is driven by an ultra-libertarian fantasy where the world is naturally characterised by inequality and endless power struggles. They sell a fake “enlightenment” that supposedly liberates these lost boys from the “false consciousness of egalitarianism”. It tricks them into believing that if they just buy enough digital snake oil, smash themselves in the face with non-rhetorical hammers, and treat women like subhuman assets, they too can ascend to the ranks of the untouchable oligarchs.
It is the ultimate grift: convincing the powerless that their salvation lies in worshipping the exact same sociopathic greed that alienated them in the first place.
But, if The Matrix is a trans allegory, why did it get so corrupted and why would the manosphere want to co-opt it?
The Evolution of The Matrix from Trans Allegory to Manosphere Dogma
Let’s get one thing fucking straight. The 1999 cinematic monolith that is The Matrix didn’t spring from the ether as a manifesto for sexually frustrated crypto-bros. Conceived by Lana and Lilly Wachowski, the narrative was meticulously engineered as a profoundly personal, blood-and-guts allegory for transgender identity, bodily autonomy, and the visceral rejection of a coercive, rigidly binary societal structure.
Yet, here we are, decades later, watching the film’s central, bleeding heart—the protagonist’s choice between a Red Pill of harsh, awakening truth and a Blue Pill of blissful, systemic ignorance—being systematically inverted and weaponised. It has been violently absorbed by the manosphere, serving as the foundational epistemology for a decentralised online coalition of anti-feminist, male-supremacist wank stains.
This goes way beyond a simple misreading. It operates within a highly sophisticated, parasitic digital paradigm known as semiotic hijacking. It is the process of violently disassembling the intrinsic synergy of a cultural symbol, ripping its guts out, and reconfiguring it to serve an adversarial ideological agenda. It fundamentally strips the artifact of its creator’s intent, mirroring the exact mechanism of memetic weaponisation that dragged Matt Furie’s benign comic character Pepe the Frog kicking and screaming into the arms of white nationalist syndicates.
But how did The Matrix become so vulnerable to this neomasculinist ideological infection? Because it was structurally compromised from its very inception by corporate cowardice. Studio-mandated alterations neutered the Wachowskis’ original vision—diluting the explicitly trans-coded characters. By shaving off the intellectual nuance for mass consumption, the executives inadvertently created an empty vessel… much like a Fleshlight, just waiting to be pumped by some protein-gulping meathead.
This corporate lobotomy paved the exact socio-political runway needed for the Red Pill to be adopted as the dogma of neomasculinist online communities. They turned a symbol of queer liberation into a psychological initiation rite for the perpetually aggrieved, an ideological theft so severe it eventually forced the Wachowskis to launch a desperate, meta-textual counter-offensive to reclaim their own narrative architecture in The Matrix Resurrections.
The Endocrine Metaphor: Premarin, Prozac, and the Reality of Transition
To truly comprehend the severity of this ideological evisceration, we have to look at the bleeding foundations of the original construct. In 2020, Lilly Wachowski explicitly confirmed what queer theorists had hypothesised for decades: The Matrix was intrinsically constructed as a narrative regarding the transgender experience, conceptualised from a closeted, pre-transition perspective. Both Lana and Lilly publicly transitioned in the years following the trilogy’s release.
That persistent unease driving the protagonist insane? That “splinter in your mind”? It is a direct and visceral metaphor for gender dysphoria—the psychological distress resulting from a fundamental misalignment between assigned sex and internal identity. The artificial world of the Matrix represents the rigidly enforced gender binary, a systemic construct designed to keep humanity categorised and docile.
And as a linguist, the dialogue of the antagonists is what truly chills my blood. The Agents are the hyper-masculine, sterile enforcers of this hegemonic norm. Notice how they constantly refer to the protagonist as “Mr. Anderson,” despite his repeated insistence that his name is “Neo”. This represents the transphobic practice of deadnaming. It is a calculated act of linguistic violence designed to invalidate a person’s authenticity by weaponising their past.
Then we get to the absolute bleeding crux of the grift: the pills. Morpheus explicitly mentions Alice tumbling down the rabbit hole, so it’s easy to dismiss the Red Pill as just another layer of Lewis Carroll pastiche. And sure, these podcasting protein-based yogurt-rifles absolutely love to style themselves as enlightened Alices, bravely peeking behind the societal looking glass to uncover some grand feminist conspiracy. But the rabbit hole they think they’re falling down is a complete fabrication. If you want the actual, visceral reality of that cinematic moment, look in a bloody medicine cabinet.
In the late 1990s, the most common hormone replacement therapy (HRT) prescribed to trans women was Premarin. Specifically, the 0.625 mg dosage was manufactured as a distinctively maroon-coloured tablet. On the other hand, individuals suffering from unrecognised gender dysphoria were frequently prescribed Prozac—a blue and orange capsule—to numb the surface-level depressive symptoms rather than treating the root cause of the incongruence.
When Morpheus extends his hands, only an utter fist-pumping nutsack would believe he were offering a subscription to a misogynist podcast. It is a deeply physiological, medical choice. Taking the Blue Pill means remaining in the closet, swallowing psychoactive numbing agents to maintain the painful illusion of the gender binary. Taking the Red Pill means embarking on hormone therapy, enduring the agony of physical transition, and waking up to the authentic “desert of the real”.
The Red Pill was, fundamentally, oestrogen.
The Institutional Mutilation of Switch
So how the actual fuck did a movie about trans liberation become the sacred text for internet fascists? Because it was structurally mutilated by institutional cowardice from day one.
The Wachowskis’ original 1996 shooting script contained a character named Switch, meticulously designed to be portrayed by two different actors: a male actor in the gritty “real world” and a female actress within the digital construct. Switch was literally meant to switch genders upon entering the simulation, providing a direct, undeniable avatar for the transgender experience, illustrating how one’s mental projection reflects internal gender identity unconstrained by biology.
But the suits at Warner Bros. killed it. During pre-production, executives mandated the removal of the dual-casting concept, arguing it would “confuse mainstream audiences” and that the corporate world “wasn’t ready for it”. The character was scrubbed of explicit gender-fluidity, forced to be played by a single actress (Belinda McClory) in an intentionally androgynous aesthetic as a vestigial, tragic homage to the original premise. Maybe that’s why they are killed off so early and with a devastating look, saying the words “not like this.”
This was a devastating instance of institutional erasure. By forcing the creators to sand down the sharp, trans-coded edges of their narrative to appease corporate shareholders, the studio left the text hollow. And when you leave a cultural artifact hollow, it’s only a matter of time before the parasites move in to fill it.
The Erased Architecture: Predators, Parasites, and Scientific Bullshit
I am going to let you in on a massive, humiliating bit of writers’ pain that cost me my entire morning going down my own fucking “rabbit hole”. I had a whole section of this manifesto written out, ready to launch a blistering attack on how the corporate castration of the Wachowskis’ original vision wasn’t just limited to scrubbing away gender identity, but bled right into the fundamental sci-fi mechanics of their dystopian universe.
Like every other self-respecting cyberpunk nerd, I fully believed the absolute gospel of the internet: that the Wachowskis originally wrote a brilliant, terrifying “wetware” concept where human brains were networked together as a colossal, parallel-processing biological supercomputer. I was fully prepared to unleash hell on whatever (no doubt brain-dead coked-up) producer literally demanded that humans be downgraded to an energy source because the CPU concept was “too hard for people to understand”.
I loved that irony that a film about how good humans were as processors turned out to be too hard for us to process.
The theatrical release feeds us this thermodynamically nonsensical premise that hyper-intelligent AI harvests humans solely for body heat and bio-electricity—using us as organic Duracells. The battery concept fails because it contradicts the Second Law of Thermodynamics. It’s a completely net-negative energy equation. It’s stoooopid. Like smashing yourself in the face with a hammer to improve your jawline.
But I went digging for the original receipts, and it turns out the entire executive meddling narrative is pure, unfiltered digital apocrypha. Every single available draft of the script, going all the way back to 1994, explicitly uses the “battery” or “human electricity” model. The Wachowskis always intended for humanity to be harvested for energy. The suits didn’t ruin the intellectual premise; the Wachowskis deliberately chose a scientifically flawed but emotionally visceral, poetic metaphor about capitalism draining your life force.
So where the fuck did the “smarter” CPU idea actually come from?
Neil Fucking Gaiman.
In 1999, Warner Bros. commissioned Gaiman to write a promotional short story called Goliath for the film’s website. Gaiman was given the script, openly admitted that the human battery idea “didn’t quite make sense” to him, and unilaterally performed an intellectual patch by changing the lore so humans were used for parallel information processing. He thought the original idea was dumb, so he fixed it (FYI his version doesn’t make any sense either, but I do have to admit it’s not a bad concept). Over the decades, fans simply assumed Gaiman’s superior sci-fi concept was the lost original vision.
This is where the absolute, grotesque poetry of this timeline reveals itself. Think about who Neil Gaiman is right now. We are talking about a man currently buried under horrific, credible allegations of sexual assault, rape, and coercive behaviour reported by multiple women. A man who major publishers and studios are currently desperately scrubbing from their rosters. In the wake of sexual assault allegations (2024-2025), Warner Bros. and other major entities have largely disowned Gaiman, making his historical “processor” contribution even more marginalized within the official franchise narrative.
Do you see the sickening through-line here?
The Wachowskis wrote a pure, visceral trans allegory. Before it even hit the cinemas, its philosophical architecture was pawed at, overwritten, and “intellectually corrected” by Neil Gaiman—an alleged predator who thought he knew better than the actual creators. And then, decades later, that exact same mythos is violently hijacked by Andrew Tate—an alleged rapist and human trafficker—and his army of manosphere incels.
The text was contaminated from the start. The Matrix has functioned as an inescapable magnet for grifters, thieves, and villains. The entire ecosystem surrounding this beautiful film has become a carnival of masturbatory alligators all playing the limp biscuit game whilst smiling their toothy smiles for a fucking slot on FHM.
The devilled egg, full of manosphere protein, was tampered with by creeps before it even reached the table.
The Manosphere and the Architecture of the Red Pill Dogma
Let’s wade into the absolute septic tank that is the manosphere. This is a highly fragmented, ideologically overlapping coalition of internet bottom-feeders: Men’s Rights Activists (MRAs), Involuntary Celibates (incels), Men Going Their Own Way (MGTOW), Pick-Up Artists (PUAs), and the tragically insecure “looksmaxxing” subcultures. Despite their conflicting methodologies on how exactly to be a total cock, they share one unifying, foundational epistemology: a deeply held, pathetic conviction that modern society is systematically biased against men, orchestrated by the insidious influence of feminism.
In 2012, this disparate coalition of wankers found their definitive lexicon and unifying mythos in the Reddit cesspool /r/TheRedPill. “Taking the red pill” became the universal signifier for accepting this toxic worldview, acting as the primary ideological superglue holding the entire spunk bubble together.
The Construction of “Reality,” Aggrieved Manhood, and Neoliberalism
Within their twisted cosmology, the “Matrix” is the progressive, feminist-influenced social order—a terrifying gynocentric society that supposedly hands women unchecked privileges while leaving men as the true oppressed victims. The Red Pill, therefore, is the painful realisation of this “truth.” These self-proclaimed “redpillers” look down on the general public as “blue-pilled” sheep hopelessly trapped in an emasculating illusion.
Sociologist Debbie Ging accurately diagnoses this rot as “aggrieved manhood”—a dangerous, volatile hybrid of traditional hegemonic masculinity violently intersected with a weaponised sense of victimhood. They justify their worldview using pseudo-scientific evolutionary psychology—untested “just-so stories”—to argue that their dominance is biologically determined. As a linguist, the jargon they deploy makes my skin crawl. Women are ruthlessly reduced to quantifiable assets based on Sexual Market Value (SMV) and dehumanised with degrading cryptolect like AWALT (All Women Are Like That), Femoids, and Hypergamous.
By adopting the cinematic language of an oppressed class breaking free from an artificial simulation, these wanksplatting buffoons cast their profound misogyny as an act of heroic rebellion. As cultural critic Stephen Marche notes, the internet acts as a “surrogate father,” allowing these frustrated men to retreat into an insular echo chamber to continuously revel in their loathing.
Redpilling as a Fascist Initiation Rite
But this is far darker than just learning new vocabulary. As scholar Jack Bratich rigorously points out, “Redpilling” is a profound cultural form of subjective transformation—a gendered rite of passage specifically engineered to restore archaic patriarchal order. It is a digitally networked campaign of awakening that explicitly mirrors the legacy of fascist war bands, like the ancient Männerbunde and modern squadrismo.
The grift relies on an “education of the affects,” deliberately targeting and weaponising the fear, resentment, and rage festering in socially isolated young men. The psychological shock of “taking the pill” is designed to violently yank them out of their depression and mobilise them for immediate action in a fabricated “war on women”. The initiate must undergo a “sacrification of immediate life”—severing ties with progressive ideologies or female friends to morph into an “authentic New Man”.
Older algorithmic gurus like Andrew Tate or Jordan Peterson position themselves as divine creators guiding this sprawling network of mini-sovereigns to reclaim their dominance. You see the blistering, tragic irony? A cinematic narrative written by two trans women to deconstruct toxic, binary gender norms is now the sacred text for a movement entirely devoted to violently enforcing them.
The Intersection with Silicon Valley Transhumanism
The successful co-optation of the Red Pill is also greased by the massive ideological overlap between the alt-right, neoliberal capitalism, and Silicon Valley transhumanism. The manosphere evaluates all human relationships as transactional exchanges of capital within a deregulated sexual marketplace—which is neoliberalism at its absolute most degrading.
Furthermore, the technological determinism inherent in the film’s aesthetic—uploading skills directly to the brain, transcending biological limits, merging sentience with artificial intelligence—is an absolute wet dream for tech-bro cyber-libertarianism. While the Wachowskis intended the film as a stark warning and critique of control societies, the right-wing technological elite have enthusiastically embraced its transhumanist aesthetics. The ideological fantasy of the Matrix has been seamlessly merged with a grotesque new American Dream propelled by accelerationism, datafication, and hyper-capitalism.
The Ideological Flashpoint: Billionaire Parasites and the Twitter Clusterfuck
The manosphere’s infection didn’t stay quarantined in the dark, sticky corners of Reddit. It inevitably breached the mainstream, mutating into a normalised dog-whistle for conservative discourse. And this brings us to the ultimate culprits: the untouchable tech-oligarchs who actively cultivate this rot because they desperately want to conflate hoarding capital with being an “Alpha.”
In May 2020, the ideological battle over this stolen symbol reached a nauseating, highly visible crescendo. Elon Musk—a nauseating billionaire cum stain whose public persona aggressively flirts with alt-right dog whistles, anti-establishment rhetoric, and cyber-libertarianism—tweeted the solitary phrase “Take the red pill” accompanied by a red rose emoji. Dropped right into the suffocating context of the COVID-19 pandemic, intense political polarisation, and his own unhinged anti-lockdown rants, this was a blaring klaxon, instantly interpreted as an endorsement of right-wing conspiracy theories and an unapologetic alignment with the conservative bloc.
The vomit-inducing cherry on top arrived when the tweet was quote-tweeted by Ivanka Trump, a senior White House advisor and the daughter of the sitting US President, who chimed in with a vapid reply, “Taken!”.
This brief, puke-inducing exchange epitomised the complete institutionalisation of the hijacked metaphor. It was no longer relegated to obscure message boards. Now it was being actively utilised by the most powerful socio-political and economic figures on the planet to signal their patriarchal, conservative solidarity.
Imagine the sheer psychological violence of that moment for the creators. Lilly Wachowski was forced to stand by and watch the ultimate symbols of capitalist hegemony and right-wing populism play with her deeply personal, closeted transgender allegory like a cheap political toy.
Her response was the only sane, proportionate reaction a creator could possibly have in this degraded timeline. She logged onto the thread and delivered a succinct, furious, and highly publicised rebuke directly to the architects of this theft:
“Fuck both of you”.
Lilly Wachowski
It was a beautiful, righteous explosion of anger, but it fundamentally underscored the profound violation inherent in semiotic hijacking. The Wachowskis had built a narrative out of the pain of marginalisation and dysphoria, a weapon specifically designed to critique the dominant hegemonic culture. Now, they had to watch the very architects of that oppressive culture wear the skin of their art.
The Matrix Resurrections and the Battle for Meaning
Unlike Matt Furie, who had to watch his stoner frog Pepe get culturally waterboarded by the alt-right and basically surrender to the stench of farts and dog-whistles, Lana Wachowski actually had the institutional firepower to launch a massive, scorched-earth counter-offensive. The Matrix Resurrections, released in 2021, was a gigantic, aggressive middle finger to the toxic subcultures who had commodified and weaponised her masterpiece.
Reclaiming the Narrative Through Feminist Meta-Commentary
Resurrections violently reclaims the red pill through an unapologetically feminist, queer, and anti-capitalist lens. Lana practically sets fire to her own legacy, presenting Thomas Anderson as a suicidally depressed video game designer being strong-armed by a corporate monolith—literally and hilariously named Warner Bros. within the film’s diegesis—into churning out a fourth instalment of his hit game, The Matrix. It’s a blistering meta-critique of the capitalist extraction of art and the studio dick-swinging that plagued the franchise from day one.
But the real genius is how she actively dismantles the patriarchal, hyper-individualistic “Chosen One” bullshit that the manosphere wanks over. In Resurrections, Neo’s power isn’t derived from innate male supremacy or some biological right to dominate. The absolute locus of power shifts to the emotional bond between Neo and Trinity. And it’s now Trinity who is elevated to equal—if not superior—status by the climax, (sorry if I spoiled it). The film screams at the audience that truly “freeing your mind” isn’t the isolating, rage-fuelled, sociopathic awakening peddled by podcast-bros. No. It’s an act of radical empathy, mutual trust, and communal support.
Then there’s the villain. She swapped out the rigid, logical Architect for The Analyst—a charismatic, manipulative tech-guru played by Neil Patrick Harris. How does he control the masses? Not through rigid rules, but through the continuous, algorithmic manipulation of emotion, outrage, and desire. It is a stark, undisguised teardown of exactly how social media platforms and manosphere influencers keep isolated men in a perpetual state of radicalised, profitable agitation.
The Swarm Response: Review Bombing and the Manosphere’s Immune System
Predictably, the manosphere and their alt-right sycophants instantly recognised the film for what it was: a targeted drone strike on their hijacked ideology. The backlash was biblical. We saw intense, coordinated review bombing, digital swarms, and the artificial amplification of their pathetic outrage.
The discourse surrounding the release was a fascinating, tragicomic sociological dynamic. These right-wing bellends decried the film as “woke” propaganda, crying into their keyboards over the loss of the franchise’s “original” message. They were utterly, comically oblivious to the staggering irony that the original message was always a progressive transgender allegory. This swarm of hostility was nothing more than a digital immune response from a toxic subculture desperately trying to protect its stolen mythos from being rewritten by the myth’s actual creator.
Media analysts reckon the meta-commentary was so dense and deliberately antagonistic that the “bad stuff” was engineered specifically to frustrate the exact demographic that weaponised the first film. By refusing to cater to their masturbatory power fantasies and explicitly centering a woman’s empowerment, Lana Wachowski effectively expelled the alt-right from her fandom. She forced them to either reckon with the text on her unapologetically queer terms, or fuck right off back to their cold showers.
Conclusion: The Devilled Egg of the Digital Age
The cultural trajectory of The Matrix serves as one of the most profound, complex, and troubling examples of semiotic instability in contemporary media history. The Wachowskis engineered a cinematic masterpiece intended to critique systemic control and articulate the painful, liberating reality of transgender transition, encoding their lived experiences into the DNA of cyberpunk aesthetics. However, initial institutional cowardice by studio executives—who erased the explicitly gender-fluid character of Switch—softened the edges of the narrative. Combine that corporate meddling with the creepy intellectual tampering of the lore by alleged predators, and the text’s core metaphors were left hopelessly vulnerable to misinterpretation.
In the decentralised, frictionless era of digital communication, the aesthetic brilliance of the Red Pill was violently excised from its queer origins and grafted onto a reactionary, patriarchal agenda. Driven by the inexorable mechanics of semiotic hijacking and the Darwinian absurdity of meme culture, the manosphere transformed a beautiful symbol of gender liberation into a toxic initiation rite for male supremacy, fascist awakening, and anti-feminist radicalisation.
While The Matrix Resurrections stands as a bold, unprecedented institutional attempt to reclaim a narrative’s soul through meta-textual cinema, the enduring legacy of the Red Pill within right-wing and incel communities demonstrates a chilling reality. In the memetic warfare of the internet, symbols do not belong to their creators; they belong to those who mobilise them most aggressively.
And that is exactly why algorithmic platforms continue to push isolated youth from benign searches straight into extremist content. It is the ultimate grift, convincing the powerless that their salvation lies in worshipping the exact same sociopathic greed that alienated them in the first place.
Which brings us right back to the bleeding leaderboard of this platform. Substack is actively earning money from a gangster pimp delaying his own justice with expensive lawyers. Andrew Tate sits at the top, raking in cash from boys who don’t know any better, selling a hyper-capitalist fantasy wrapped in the stolen skin of a queer masterpiece.
What was once the most beautiful trans allegory about authenticity ever to have made it into the mainstream has been parasitically hollowed out. The Matrix has become a devilled egg, violently stuffed full of disgusting manosphere protein.
As a post-truth poet watching the meaning of words bleed out on the digital floor, I refuse to swallow it. Let them choke on their pills.
